Officers from the food standards team inspect businesses to ensure that both food and animal feed is safe, appropriately labelled and of the required quality. Furthermore, officers from the team seek to ensure that the hygiene of animal feed premises is suitable.
The food standards team covers the following areas:
Identifying and preventing the supply of counterfeit and substituted foods (e.g. substitution of meat and counterfeit spirits)
Food fraud (e.g. misleading claims)
Chemical contamination of food
Food labelling (ensure food is accurately labelled and as described)
Feed hygiene and safety (helping to ensure that the food we eat is safe from farm to fork)
Checks on imported feed.
