East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Business Investment and Tourism Services have secured Customer First accreditation – the UK’s national standard for customer service.
Although the council’s business services team has held the prestigious award for a number of years, the most recent assessment - carried out over two days - was the first time that the authority’s inward investment, Greenport business support, tourism and events teams were also included.
An external assessor measured the council against 30 different indicators across three areas of work - customer relationships, market awareness and people – with the service area being judged as being compliant in all areas.
Councillor Andy Burton, the cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and planning delivery at the council, said, “The council is one of the East Riding’s key economic drivers and to be recognised nationally by an external assessor for the services we provide to local businesses and in growing the local economy is a real achievement.
Councillor Richard Burton, the cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said, “To see our tourism services secure Customer First accreditation is welcome news follows on from our tourist information centre in Bridlington receiving a White Rose Award last year.
“Tourism is an important sector for the East Riding, providing thousands of jobs and generating around £550 million a year for the region.”
Jo Dooley, business investment and tourism services manager, said, “Securing this accreditation for the whole of business investment and tourism services for the first time is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff in putting the customer first and also demonstrates the council’s commitment to growing the local economy for the benefit of businesses and communities.”
