Where can I find business advice?

The Citizens Advice consumer service (CAcs) website can give you practical advice when you have a dispute with a customer concerning the goods or services that have been bought from you.

How can I protect myself from business scams?

If you think that your business has been the victim of a marketing scam you should report the matter to:

  • the police
  • trading standards, you can use Citizens Advice consumer service (CAcs) for this purpose

It is also important to make a report to Action Fraud - the UK’s national fraud and internet crime reporting centre:

Where else can I get advice for businesses?

The following organisations offer advice or information to businesses.

GOV.UK website is a government online resource for all.  It has a section aimed at businesses and the self-employed. It contains essential information about starting up and running a business in the UK, including help if you're self-employed or a sole trader.

How do I report a problem to trading standards?

You can report a problem to trading standards with help from Citizens Advice consumer service (CAcs). It is a government-funded telephone and online advice service that East Riding of Yorkshire Council works in partnership with.

They were set up to provide free, confidential and impartial advice on consumer issues where appropriate and where appropriate forward reports to the local trading standards service.
