The role of overview and scrutiny is to review and scrutinise decisions which affect East Riding of Yorkshire residents and make recommendations to support the improvement of council services. The Council is required to have at least one overview and scrutiny committee.
Overview and scrutiny committees advise on policy formulation and hold the Cabinet to account in relation to specific matters. Overview and scrutiny committees also review areas of council activity which are not the responsibility of the Cabinet or matters of wider local concern such as the emergency services and health services.
Overview and scrutiny committees do not deal with individual queries, concerns or complaints.
