Who can stand for election?

To stand for election at local and national elections you must be 18 years of age or over and comply with the criteria for each election.

How do I stand for election?

If you meet the above criteria you can stand for election by completing a nomination paper for the relevant election. Please find the nomination forms below.

If an election is contested (there are more nominations than seats available), an election (poll) will then take place on a specified date for people to decide who they wish to vote for.

If you're unable to print the forms. please contact the electoral services teamand we will post the forms to you.

Parliamentary Nomination Paper

You will require a 'proposer' and a 'seconder' plus eight assentors to nominate you and sign the nomination paper. All proposer, seconders and assentors must be registered electors for the constituency you wish to stand for election in.

Please note: the Nomination Paper, along with a £500 deposit, must be delivered by hand by the Candidate, Agent, proposer or seconder to the (Acting) Returning Officer between Wednesday 1 April and 4pm on Thursday, 9 April 2015.  

Ward Nomination Paper

You will require a 'proposer' and a 'seconder' plus eight assentors to nominate you and sign the nomination paper. All proposer, seconders and assentors must be registered electors for the ward you wish to stand for election in.

Please note: the Nomination Paper must be delivered by hand (anyone can deliver the nomination paper on behalf of the candidate) to the Returning Officer between Monday 30 March and 4pm on Thursday, 9 April 2015. 

Parish Nomination Paper
