EnergieKontor UK Limited was founded in 1999 and is a subsidiary of the German based EnergieKontor group. In the East Riding EnergieKontor UK Limited operates two wind farms, one at Withernwick and one at Burton Pidsea. A part of the development's planning permission, granted in 2009 a commitment was made to create a community fund.
This fund, the Withernwick Community Wind Farm fund receives an annual donation from EnergieKontor UK Limited. The amount of the donation is based on a formula of £2,000 per megawatt of the wind farms operating capacity to a maximum of £36,000 per annum.
The area of benefit for the fund is the electoral wards of Mid and North Holderness in the East Riding of Yorkshire with a preference for appropriate initiatives in the proximity to the wind farm. The area of benefit map can be downloaded from the table below.

The fund operates a rolling programme and applications for funding can be made at anytime. The fund panel meets quarterly to consider applications, where the full information required has been submitted. Applicants are advised to submit all information by the last day of the month before a Fund Panel meeting to ensure that their application is considered.

Note: No expenditure on a project that occurs before the Panel Date can be considered for funding. Decision letters will be sent to both successful and unsuccessful applicants within 14 days of a Fund Panel meeting.
Applications are accepted from community groups, community organisations, charities, parish councils, schools and churches. New groups or ideas for projects where a group does not currently exist can be considered.

There are no upper or lower limits on the amount of money that can be requested.
The fund panel will look for evidence of a projects own contribution towards the costs and will prioritise applications that show a 50% match funding. However, in certain circumstances 100% funding may be given.
Energiekontor have appointed East Riding of Yorkshire Council as the Accountable Body and Administrators of the fund. As part of this role the council provides the secretariat and advice function to a Fund Panel that make decisions about how the money is disbursed. The Fund Panel is made up of people appointed by the following organisations:
The fund panel meets four times a year in March, June, September and December. Applicants are informed of decisions by telephone or email on the day after each meeting and this is then followed up formally in writing.
The applicant completes an online Application Form and submits it electronically with supporting evidence.
