How long are the waiting lists for East Riding of Yorkshire Council allotments?

The waiting lists for East Riding of Yorkshire Council allotments vary from site to site. The shortest list is for the allotments at Bridlington, where the next person on the list has been waiting over three years. For the sites in Beverley, the person at the top of the list has been waiting over eight years.

Due to the demand for allotments increasing over the last few years, the number of people joining the lists has risen at a much quicker speed than the number of people leaving their allotments, so it is very likely that people joining the lists now will have to wait considerably longer than the people currently at the top of the lists.

Your money will be deducted from your account on a standing order at the start of April each year.

How do I apply to be put on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council allotment waiting list?

You can apply for an allotment online (opens in new window) and your details will be added to our database. When you are the next person on the list, you will be contacted to see if the available plot is satisfactory.

Due to the long waiting time on the allotment lists, and the high demand, we may occasionally send out a letter to everyone on the list to see if they still wish to remain on the list. This is to try and minimise the waiting time for all those people who continue to wish to have an allotment.

How do I report the inappropriate use of an East Riding of Yorkshire Council allotment?

If you suspect someone is using an East Riding of Yorkshire Council allotment inappropriately, or neglecting it, please use the general enquiry form on the right hand side of this page, giving as much detail as you can, and our officers will look into the matter.

Unfortunately these matters can take quite some time to resolve, as allotment plot holders must be given a suitable amount of time to bring their allotment up to the required standard, but we will try and rectify the situation as soon as possible.

How can I get a new allotment site set up near me?

If there are no allotment sites near you and you would like to try and get one set up, then the responsibility for this lies with your local Town or Parish Council – to find the contact details please use our Town and Parish Council Finder.

There are a variety of general online resources available to help or advise, including:

Allotments Regeneration Initiative (external website)

There is also a very useful website giving details of the quest to set up some community allotments in the parish of Yapham cum Meltonby in East Riding of Yorkshire. It gives a good overview of their progress and would be a valuable resource for other people wishing to set up their own community allotments:
