There are a few different types of mapping systems on the website, and they all work a little differently. Please read the guidance below for each style of map:
These maps allow you to find street-based information about salting routes, work being done to the street and green bin collection routes:
To pan - click, hold and drag your mouse to move the map. Alternatively, move your mouse over the bottom left of the map and some controls will appear. Use the arrow keys to move up, down, left or right.
To zoom - click, hold and scroll the wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out of the map. Alternatively, move your mouse over the bottom left of the map and some controls will appear. Use the '+' and '-' keys to zoom in and out.
Binoculars icon - You can either drag the screen to pan the map, or click on the binoculars icon to search by postcode.
Finder maps form part of 'directories of information' on the website which list large amount of information by service type - for example:
These directories are simple to use and allow you to search by either:
Using postcode search
This
search allows you to enter part of your address (or any address) to
find services near by. For example, enter a postcode of 'HU179BA' into
the 'Postcode' box, select a distance of 3 miles from the 'Within
(miles)' drop down list and click search. This will show all of the
records within 3 miles of that postcode.
Using show all
This
will show a list of all items in this particular directory. Twenty
results are shown per page, with their corresponding locations shown on
the map.
If you know the name of the service or place you are searching for, you can search by 'keyword'.
Using advanced map search
This
search allows you to find services near to a particular point on a
map. For example to find services near to Beverley hold CTRL on your
keyboard and click you left mouse button to select your start point (you
can zoom the map if you need to by using the map tools in the bottom
left hand corner of the map or by using your mouse scroll wheel). Then
select a distance of 3 miles from the 'Within (miles)' drop down list
and click search. This will show all of the records within 3 miles of
that point on the map.
Maps not displaying?
To use the map, you will need a plug-in called Microsoft Silverlight installed on your computer. Read more on our help page about Silverlight and how to install it. Once installed, simply click and drag your mouse to pan across the map (just like using Google Maps) or use the navigation tools in the bottom left hand corner of the map.
