Joint waste local plan

What is the Joint Waste Local Plan?

The Joint Waste Local Plan will provide waste planning policies for Hull and the East Riding. It will replace the existing Joint Waste Local Planwhich was adopted in November 2004 and will:

  • allocate specific sites for waste management use;
  • provide policies against which waste management proposals on non-allocated sites will be judged;
  • set out the context for requiring a site waste management plan in new developments;
  • protect sensitive environments from harmful waste management development.

Hull City Council is leading on production of the Joint Minerals Local Plan with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

What is the latest stage in preparing the Joint Waste Local Plan?

A second Issues and Options consultation paper was published in Spring 2012. An initial consultation was carried out in 2008, but due to a number of factors, work on the JWLP was suspended. Since then there have been a number of changes, including significantly improved municipal recycling rates and an overall fall in waste arisings, and it is appropriate to re-consult on Issues and Options.
