The Joint Structure Plan and the six local plans will be replaced through the Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF comprises a number of different documents and will provide policies to address key planning issues. It will help guide investment decisions and be used to determine planning applications.

The Core Strategy DPD will be the overarching LDF document. It will include a vision, set out how much development there will be and where this should go. It will also include policies on housing, economic development, the environment and infrastructure.

A Sustainability Appraisal (SA) assesses the policies and proposals in the LDF against agreed sustainable development objectives. A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) assesses the effects of the LDF on the environment.

The evidence base is a collection of information. It comprises of a number of studies, strategies and statistics to ensure that the LDF is based on a thorough understanding of the needs and opportunities of the East Riding.

The Employment Land Review assesses the likely demand for, and supply of, land for employment uses. The Review helps to understand how much land we will need to allocate for employment purposes.

Town centres and retail study

The Town Centres and Retail Study provides advice on planning policy for town centres and retailing in the East Riding. The study includes a forecast for the amount of floorspace required for retail uses.

Landscape character assessment

A Landscape Character Assessment identifies the areas of distinct landscape character within the East Riding and makes judgements about the quality, value, sensitivity and capacity for new development in each area identified.

Strategic flood risk assessment

The Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) collates information on all known sources of flooding that may affect existing or future development within the East Riding. It shows those areas that have a 'low', 'medium' and 'high' probability of flooding.

Affordable housing viability assessment

An Affordable Housing Viability Assessment will provide the evidence to create an affordable housing planning policy for the LDF. It aims to develop a robust and transparent means of determining justifiable affordable housing targets.

The Infrastructure Study identifies the various forms of infrastructure that are required to meet growth which may come forward through the Local Development framework (LDF) over the period 2009/10 to 2026.
