East Riding of Yorkshire Council will remove large dead wild animals or dead cats and dogs from the street. Smaller dead wild animals are left for nature to take its course.
You can report a dead animal online (opens in new window).
Procedures to organise the removal of dead animals are normally started within a couple of hours of notification, or the next working day, depending on the time of day and workloads.
If the animal is causing an obstruction on a highway and could cause an accident, then please call our emergency hotline on (01377) 252 333.

The dead animal will be taken and scanned, either by a local vet or by utilising the council’s dog warden team.
When a chip is located the owners will be notified. If no chip is found the animal is then disposed of.

The council will not remove dead animals from houses. When such a service is required, customers are advised to contact a vet or recognised pet undertaker.

Dead animals that are washed up on to beaches and other coastal areas will be removed as soon as possible using specialist equipment where necessary.
We will work in partnership with the RSPCA and all other suitable bodies to decide on appropriate action.
If reporting a dead coastal animal, please ensure that the animal is definitely dead as live animals such as seals can regularly be found on beaches. If you find such a large animal on the beach, please leave them alone or contact the RSPCA if they appear distressed.
