Explains how the council works with others to protect the coastline.
We work with the Government, the Environment Agency, the North East Coastal Group, and other partners to manage coastal flooding and erosion risks in the East Riding. We also work with organisations and groups to manage landscapes, wildlife features and assets which are unique to certain places. For example, as members of the separate Humber and Flamborough Head Management Schemes, we help to manage European Marine Sites which are protected by law under the EC Habitats and Birds Directives.
We seek to develop local responses to coastal flooding and erosion risks by engaging with communities at risk. This builds upon the previous work of the East Riding Coastal Forum, which was part of an Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) approach delivered through the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan.
It also follows the community participation which shaped the Shoreline Management Plan (SMP).
