Explains what the council does to protect the coastline and what the shoreline management plan is.
We survey and maintain the coastal defences which protect key towns and infrastructure from coastal erosion and coastal flooding. We also survey the coastline twice a year to monitor coastal erosion and beach levels, and send the results to communities without defences so that residents can prepare for, and adapt to, coastal change.
A Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) sets out how a length of shoreline will be managed over a period of 100 years. The shoreline is defined as the boundary between the land and the sea.
