Explains what the council does to improve waterways.
We work in partnership with public, private, community and voluntary organisations to manage, develop, enhance and promote our waterways so that they contribute to economic, environmental and social regeneration. Between 2008 and 2010, we worked closely with the Coast, Wolds, Wetlands and Waterways (CWWW) LEADER programme to establish the East and North Yorkshire Waterways Partnership. From the start, the partnership’s mission has been to develop, restore and enhance the waterways in our local area for the benefit of everyone. The partnership aims to build consensus between diverse interest groups which have a passion for our waterways, and provide a forum for organisations to discuss and agree upon national, regional and local issues. The work of the partnership is driven by the Waterways Strategy 2012-2020, which sets out a long-term strategic approach to the regeneration of the waterways in the partnership area.
