YORSwitch, East Riding's cheaper energy together switching scheme

I’ve registered with YORSwitch, what happens next?

Thank you to all who registered with YORSwitch.  Registration for the April energy auction ended at midnight on Monday 8 April followed by an online auction between energy suppliers on 9 April.

A personal offer from the winning energy supplier will be sent out to all who registered showing how much money they could save by switching.

If you are waiting for an offer email (online registrations)

All email offers have now been sent out.  If you have not received your email, please telephone iChoosr on 0800 0488 285.
The closing date for acceptance of your offer is Monday 20 May.

If you are waiting for an offer letter (offline registrations)

We expect all of the letters to have been sent out by early next week (w/c 6 May).
The closing date for accepting your offer by post is Monday 20 May.

What should I do when I receive my personal offer?

When you receive your personal offer, it will tell you who the winning supplier is and their rate for your annual energy consumption.  The offer letter will also show your current annual usage which you told us when registering for the scheme, so that you are able to compare how much money you would save by switching.

Please consider the offer carefully and check with your current provider if you will have to pay a penalty charge for terminating your contract.

If you decide to switch, simply complete the form attached to the offer letter/email and either post back in the pre-paid envelope or email back.  We will then take care of the switching process for you and you will receive a welcome pack from your new supplier in due course.

If you decide not to switch, you do not need to do anything.

If you would like extra support with switching, please visit our YORSwitch ambassadors in one of the following locations with your latest energy bill and offer letter.

What is the purpose of the scheme?

Many residents are still paying too much for their energy. Sometimes they don’t have the ability to switch suppliers, are afraid of switching, don’t have the time or simply think that it’s just too much hassle.

With the Cheaper Energy Together scheme we will negotiate for competitive prices with the energy companies on behalf of our residents and make the switching process as simple as possible. We are hoping that many people who wouldn’t otherwise switch will take advantage of the opportunity and benefit from the scheme, including some of our most vulnerable customers.

How does it work?

We gather together a lot of people who want to switch and pay less for their energy with no hassle. We then arrange for an auction to take place between the energy suppliers and the one that offers the best deal will offer you a new contract. You will receive a personal offer which will show how much you can save.

Is there a fee to switch?

No. There is no cost to register or to switch.

Will there be more auctions?

There is another YORSwitch auction for households, taking place in June which you can register for using the link at the top of the page.

We are also intending to participate in an auction next year so that those who have switched in this auction, or those who have missed out, can take part again.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council are now researching how we can help micro to medium businesses save money on their energy bills.

Furthermore, we are hoping to work alongside the Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council to plan a collective switching scheme for residents who use oil in their homes.

Please check the website for more information about these plans or register your interest via the form below.
