What are the options for my special needs child when he/she reaches school age?

Children with special educational needs will be admitted to schools in accordance with the Government's code of practice on school admissions and code of practice on special educational needs.

Wherever possible, children with special educational needs attend their local mainstream school, although in some cases it is recognised that specialist provision is more appropriate.  All parents of pupils with statements of special educational needs can express a preference for the school they would like their children to attend.

Information about special schools and a booklet setting out the provisions made by the authority for children with special educational needs are available on request from the Special Educational Needs section (01482) 392165.

What are the proposals for special schools in East Riding of Yorkshire?

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is consulting on proposals to create Area Special Schools by making changes to each of the three existing Special Schools: King's Mill, St Anne's and Riverside.  Each school would then provide children from its allocated area with a wider range of provision for children with special educational needs.  The consultation runs until 14 February 2014 and the consultation document can be found here:
