To help Schools to fulfil their obligations in a cost effective way. By sharing resources which have been chosen to meet curriculum needs by an education professional and procured centrally, the school is able to fulfil its obligation in this area whilst keeping expenditure to a minimum. Schools Library Service stock is reviewed against local and nationally agreed objectives and replaced regularly, enabling the school to provide vibrant and topical resources which are relevant to teaching and learning needs.
"The new curriculum aspires to free up teachers to deliver engaging programmes of study. To achieve this, teachers need access to high quality and current literature and information resources." APPG (2014) The Beating Heart of the School.pdf

The Schools Library Service provides fiction and non fiction books for loan to schools, and a range of advisory services to support library development within the school. It operates within Library and Information Services based at the Council Offices, Skirlaugh.
The Schools Library Service can provide fiction and non-fiction books for loan up to and including Key Stage 3, on a term-by-term basis. In addition, the Schools' Library Service provides a range of advisory services to the school library.
