Continuing professional development (CPD) courses

Details of the continuing professional development (CPD) courses on offer from Schools' Music Service.

Can the East Riding Music Hub deliver weekly curriculum music?

Yes, we have a team of skilled and experienced classroom practitioners who can deliver weekly classroom music lessons. Schemes of worked will be planned in line with the national curriculum and will have a practical emphasis.

Planning can be linked to school topics and the classroom practitioner could also work alongside the class teacher as part of their own CPD. We can provide classroom percussion instruments and resources as part of the package.

What CPD courses have already taken place?

The curriculum team have led a variety of training. These sessions have included, music reskilling, composition, graphic scores, listening, vocal work, resources, music express, national curriculum, Ofsted, use of ICT, behaviour management and the use of non-verbal commands. The team have received very positive feedback.

From recent CPD training:

"This was a really well-organised, well-resourced, and beneficial session, as well as managing to be really enjoyable!  No mean feat for a twilight!  I now feel inspired and better equipped to deliver higher quality music lessons to all the children in our school."

"A thoroughly enjoyable and informative course.  I’m looking forward to sharing the knowledge I have gained today with my colleagues."

"So much was packed into this twilight session!  There is plenty to unpick and use in my school."

What CPD courses are coming up?

The curriculum team are planning a variety of upcoming CPD training including 'Reskilling - teaching music as a non-specialist' and  'Teaching vocal technique and sharing vocal resources'. The curriculum team can also offer bespoke training for a specific school or cluster group.  The following feedback was given by a Head teacher who asked the team to lead a two-part twilight session on 'Music Express'.

"Thank you for packing in so much input into such a short space of time. Extremely useful and a great help for the teachers."
