Where can I find the archives service?

The archives, family and local history service is in the  Treasure House

It is about 10 minutes walk from the railway and bus stations. You can use the Traveline Yorkshire Journey Planner website to plan your journey, or if you know the number of the bus you can look up its timetable.

Heritage Open Day, Saturday 12th September, 9am-4pm

'Around The World In 80 Documents'

Come and join us as we celebrate our fantastic heritage and culture with a wide range of events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.

This year we are showcasing the links between the East Riding and the history of transport & travel across the world.

You will get the opportunity for an exclusive 'behind the scenes tour' of the Archives as well as conservation demonstrations.  Plus, there will be children's activities, including games, craft, and a treasure hunt.

Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult.

Our opening hours are:

  • Monday 9.30am - 5pm
  • Tuesday 9.30am - 8pm
  • Wednesday 9.30am - 5pm
  • Thursday 9.30am - 8pm
  • Friday 9.30am - 5pm
  • Saturday 9am - 4pm

Please note:  August Bank Holiday opening hours

  • Sunday 30 August  CLOSED
  • Monday 31 August  CLOSED
  • Tuesday 1 September 9.30am-8pm

Where do I park?

There is no on-site parking on weekdays at the Treasure House.

The closest car park is in Grayburn Lane off Lairgate, but other public car parks can be found by using the car park finder.

On a Saturday, the car park behind the Treasure House is open for you to use. It is a pay and display car park, and disabled spaces are available.

What is your disabled access? 

All public areas of the Treasure Houseare accessible to wheelchairs, including the research room and toilets.

  • The research room desk has a hearing loop installed.
  • There are six disabled parking spaces located at the Treasure House.
  • There is a lift to the coffee lounge and galleries on the first floor.
