It is free to join the library, borrow books and other items and to reserve books from the Online Library Catalogue. You can join the library by completing the online form (opens in new window)or at your local branch library. You will be sent your library membership card by post. Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) will come in a separate letter, and with this you can check your personal account online.
If you want to start using your library membership today you will need to visit your nearest library and you will be able to collect a library membership card.
You will be asked for proof of ID showing your name, address and signature. For example, your paper driving licence has all three, or a current utility bill and a bank card would be accepted.

If you have joined online, your new library card and PIN will be posted to you. Just take your library card along to your library with your ID the first time you want to borrow an item.
If you do not have a fixed address, you can ask for “light” membership and you will not need to provide ID. This will enable you to borrow a limited number of items.

Just take your old library card along next time you visit the library and it can be renewed. If you have moved home, bring a current proof of address with your name, new address and signature. For example, your updated paper driving licence which has all three, or a current utility bill and a bank card. The library staff will be happy to renew your library card for you.

For security reasons, we are unable to tell you your PIN over the telephone, but you can ask for it to be posted or emailed to you.
