Essential Maintenance

Due to scheduled building work, from Saturday 2 June Hedon Library is in temporary accommodation in a portakabin located in the car park to the rear of the library.

Opening hours remain the same. 

It is anticipated that the building work will take 6-months to complete.

Large print, audio books on cassette and CD, DVDs for adults and children, music CDs, local studies material for loan.  Items can be requested free of charge from other East Riding of Yorkshire libraries.

Tuesdays
Reminiscence. Last Tuesday of the month. 2 - 3pm
Take a trip down memory lane at your local East Riding Library. Use our great range of memory boxes containing items such as photographs, books and even food packaging to relive the sights and sounds of days gone by. Reminiscence is a social group for older people to meet new friends and have fun sharing stories. Reminiscence is also proven to be beneficial for those living with Dementia and their carers, and is endorsed by the Alzheimer’s society. *As of 2 June 2018, we are not taking any new members until we move back into the refurbished library. 


Wednesdays
Bookstart Bear Club Storytime. For pre-school children. 10.15 – 10.45am, and 11.15 – 11.45am
Storytime is a fun and enjoyable introduction to books for pre-schoolers. Sharing books with young children can help to build concentration skills, listening skills and extend vocabulary to give them a head start when they begin school. Please book places in advance by telephoning Hedon library (01482) 897651. *Due to the refurbishment of the library, from 2 June 2018 this activity will be held at Hedon Nursery School 10.15 - 10.45 & 11.15 - 11.45. 



Thursdays

Adult Book Club. First Thursday of the month. 2.30 – 3.30pm.
Reading can reduce stress by 68% and risk of dementia by 35%. Broaden your horizons, meet likeminded people and explore the fascinating world of literature. Knit and Natter. Alternate Thursdays. 2 - 4pm.

Library knitting groups offer improved health and wellbeing and a lively group of new friends for all ages and abilities. Did you know knitting has therapeutic qualities similar to meditation? Research shows it can help prevent and manage stress and pain. Chatterbooks. For children aged 8 - 11. Third Friday of the month. 4 - 5pm
Join in our popular reading group for primary school children, to talk about what you are reading, take part in fun activities inspired by the best children's books, and choose new books to take home and read. Did you know, children who read for enjoyment do better at school? No need to book, just come along. *Due to the refurbishment of the library, from 2 June 2018 this activity will be held at Hedon Children's Centre. 

Teenage Book Club. For children aged 12 - 14. First Tuesday of the month. 4 - 5pm
Want to talk about the book you’re reading? Or want to find out about new authors? Join in with your local teenage reading group to share ideas and stories. Please phone the library to check the date of when the Teenage Book Club next meets. Teenage Book Club. For children aged 14 - 18. Last Friday of the month. 5.15 - 6.15pm
Reading books is the only out-of-school activity for 16-year-olds demonstrably linked to securing managerial or professional jobs. Want to talk about the book you’re reading? Or want to find out about new authors? Join in with your local teenage reading group to share ideas and stories. *As of 2 June 2018, we are not taking any new members until we move back into the refurbished library. 


Getting there

By bus - Hedon library is two minute's walk from the nearest bus stop on Hedon Crossroads.

Parking - free parking is available at Magdalen Gate, Iveson Close and Thorn Road, all with disabled bays.
