Unstaffed hours Haltemprice Library and Customer Service Centre is an OPEN+ Library. OPEN+ membership allows you to enter during specified unstaffed hours. For more information, terms and conditions and the registration form please visit the Join the library page.
During these unstaffed hours you can borrow and return loans on the library Self Service machines, check your account and collect items you have reserved, use the free library WiFi service and use the assisted digital computer for information and advice on all council and partner services.

Large print, audio books on CD for adults and children, plus a small collection of junior DVDs. Local studies titles for loan. Items can be requested free of charge from other East Riding of Yorkshire libraries.
Code Club. 4 - 5pm Code Club has teamed up with East Riding Libraries to deliver a network of free volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11. Run termly, children will be able to progress their Coding skills whilst using their imaginations to make creative projects. We make use of Scratch, HTML, CSS and Python software through PC’s in Libraries across the authority.
Storytime. Second Tuesday in the month. 10 - 10.30am Storytime is a fun and enjoyable introduction to books for pre-schoolers. Sharing books with young children can help to build concentration skills, listening skills and extend vocabulary to give them a head start when they begin school. No need to book, just come along!
Tablet Time - 11am - 12noon. This informal group meet weekly in the library, with their tablets, to share knowledge and ideas. Everyone is welcome from beginners, through to more experienced users who can share knowledge and techniques with the rest of the group. Please bring your own tablet and participate in our group ethos: ‘Share problems – Share knowledge – Have fun’
Adult Book Club. First Tuesday of the month. 7 - 8pm Reading can reduce stress by 68% and risk of dementia by 35%. Broaden your horizons, meet like-minded people and explore the fascinating world of literature. Suitable for all adults and ability levels. No need to book just come along however, a requirement is that you complete an Open+ registration card during staffed hours to enjoy the freedom of the extended opening times at Haltemprice Library and Customer Service Centre.

Reminiscence. Every four weeks. 11am - 12noon Take a trip down memory lane at your local East Riding Library. Use our great range of memory boxes containing items such as photographs, books and even food packaging to relive the sights and sounds of days gone by. Reminiscence is a social group for older people to meet new friends and have fun sharing stories. Reminiscence is also proven to be beneficial for those living with Dementia and their carers, and is endorsed by the Alzheimer’s society. Spaces are limited and booking is essential so please Haltemprice Library and Customer Service Centre (01482) 393939 for availability and future dates.
Bounce and Rhyme with Storytime. For pre-school children. 9.30 - 10am. Experts have discovered that if a child knows eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they are four years old, they are usually among the best at reading and spelling in their class by the time they are in Year 3. Enjoy sharing stories, songs and rhymes with your pre-school children in a group setting. Help increase their language, concentration and listening skills in these fun sessions which are delivered in partnership with Anlaby Children’s Centre. Booking is essential as places are limited. Book a place in person through Haltemprice Library and Customer Service Centre or Anlaby Children’s Centre or by calling 01482 393939Suitable for children aged 0-3 years. However older pre-school children may attend. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Knit and Natter. 2 - 3pm Library knitting groups offer improved health and wellbeing and a lively group of new friends for all ages and abilities. Did you know knitting has therapeutic qualities similar to meditation? Research shows it can help prevent and manage stress and pain. No need to book, just come along and join our friendly group.
