Lectures
Lectures are presented in the Treasure House education room, commencing at 6.30pm.
Tuesday 7 February: Wagoners' Memorial, Sledmere - Revisited. Dorothy Nott completed her MA dissertation on the Wagoners' Memorial in 2009. She is now studying the development of war art from c.1850 to c.1920 for her doctorate.
Friday 24 February: Espying Heaven: the Stained Glass of Charles Eamer Kempe. Adrian Barlow is a trustee of the Kempe Trust and has recently retired as Director of Public and Professional Programmes at the University of Cambridge.
Tuesday 13 March: The Beauties of Sterne. Patrick Wildgust is Curator of Shandy Hall in Coxwold, North Yorkshire and looks after the house, books, prints and paintings held there relating to Laurence Sterne and his writings.
Thursday 5 April: Medieval York. Andrew Morrison is Keeper of Archaeology at Yorkshire Museum.
Tuesday 2 October: A Potted History of Hornsea Pottery. Carol Harker is Curator of Hornsea Pottery at Hornsea Museum. Pieces of Hornsea pottery from the museum's collection will be available to view.
Tuesday 9 October: William Fowler of Winterton: A Georgian Architect, Builder and Engraver. Rose Nicholson is Collections Manager at North Lincolnshire Museums Service.
Tuesday 16 October: Discovering the East Coast: Aristocratic Tourism in Yorkshire, 1680-1832. George Sheeran is an Honorary Visiting Resarch Fellow at the University of Bradford. He is also a director of the People, Landscapes and Cultural Environments Research Centre (PLACE) supported by York St John University.
Tuesday 30 October: Farrago, the Tiled House in Hornsea. An illustrated lecture presented by Josie Adams.
Tuesday 6 November: The Green Man - What is He and Where to Find Him? Presented by Bruce Skinner, local historian.

Wednesday 27 June: A Ramble Around Old Snaith. 7pm - 9pm. Led by Mr Ron Christian, Snaith Historical and Heritage Societies. Meet at the Main gate of the Parish Church in Snaith.
Wednesday 4 July: Rudston Revealed. 7pm - 9pm. An introduction to local geology, archaeology, building stones and the landscape of Rudston. Visiting the exterior of Rudston Church, Rudston Monolith, Graveyard and Gypsey Race. Led by Richard Myerscough, University of Hull and Bridlington University of 3rd Age. Meet at Rudston Parish Church.

Saturday 23 June: Family History Beginners' Day. 10am - 3.30pm. £25 per person. If you'd love to trace your family tree but don't know where to get started, then this one-day course is perfect for you. An expert tutor will introduce different ways in which you can find information about your ancestors. Over the course of the day you'll have the chance to start finding out about the history of your family, and meet other new family historians. At the end of the day you will leave with the beginnings of your family tree and a pack of information to help you research further. A buffet lunch will be included. Saturday 8 September: Treasure House Open Day. 9am to 4pm. Come and see behind the scenes at the Treasure House Open Day 2012 as part of the Heritage Open Days. Explore your family and local history, view an exhibition of local archives and books on sport, play and games, take a behind-the-scenes tour or conservation demonstration. There will be children's activities, games and competitions. This event will be held in the research room and therefore the research facilities will not be available. Free drop in event suitable for adults and families - everyone welcome.
Saturday 20 October: Local and Family History Book Fair. 10am to 4pm. An excellent opportunity to buy local and family history books, old and new, pamphlets and maps. Come and meet members of local and family history organisations and groups. Free drop in event suitable for adults and young people.

Workshops
Tuesday 21 February: Explore Recycling. 10am to 3pm. Join us for a day of recycling-themed activities. Create your own original recycled crafts and meet the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's knowledgeable Waste Management Team. Pop down to the Library for their Story Time session which will have a recycling theme this week (2.30pm to 3pm). View the exhibition "Recycled Fashions" in the library foyer by local fashion and textiles students. Free drop in activity suitable for children and families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday 2 June: Treasure Boxes. 10am to 3pm. Decorate your own mini treasure chest, encrust it with jewels and fill it with booty inspired by our "Precious Cargo - Lifting the Lid" exhibition. Free drop in activity suitable for children and families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Wednesday 25 July: Chinese Fans. 10am to 3pm. Workshop inspired by the beautiful items in the Ida Miles Chinese collection. Make your own decorative Chinese fan. Free drop in activity suitable for children and families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday 27 October: Paper Making. 10am to 1pm. Book in advance (£3) for this workshop to have a go at making your own decorative hand-made paper. Find out how paper making began in Japan and discover its journey to Europe. Suitable for children aged 7+ (dress to mess!). Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday 9 December: Festival of Christmas Creative Activities. 10am to 3pm. Get into the Christmas spirit by making festive decorations and gifts for family and friends. Free drop in activities to suit all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday 19 April: Jacqueline Stieger: Sculptor, Jeweller and Medallist. Starts at 6.30pm. Book in advance £5. A talk by Dr Gerardine Mulcahy, Curator of Beverley Art Gallery.
Tuesday 12 June: The Story of Silk and its Use in 19th Century English Costume. Starts at 6.30pm. Book in advance £5. A talk by Janet Tierney, Curator of Goole Museum and Skidby Windmill. Items from the costume collection will be available to view.
Tuesday 19 June: Amy Johnson, Girl Power in the 1930s. Starts at 6.30pm. Book in advance £5. Aspects of the life and career of Hull's most famous flying daughter. A talk by Dr David Marchant, East Riding of Yorkshire Museums Registrar.

Babies and pre-school children
Bookstart. Ask for details of your free Bookstart pack. Join the Bookstart Bear Club and collect great certificates.
Bounce and Rhyme. Free. Come along and enjoy some fun action songs and rhymes. Booking is essential. Contact Beverley Library on (01482) 392750 for more information and booking.
Story Rhyme and Happy Time! 2:30pm - 3pm. Fun stories read every Tuesday for pre-school children. Admission is free! All children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking not required.
Readers Groups
Chatterbooks Book Club. Meets in Beverley Children's Library on the first Thursday of every month. 4.15pm. Suitable for children aged 8-11 years. We have activities and games as well as reading books by our favourite authors and new ones too.
Summer Reading Challenge. Read six books during the summer holidays, come along to weekly sessions at Beverley Library, talk about your books and join in with some exciting activities. Booking is essential from the beginning of July.
Comparethebookclub.com. Meets third Thursday of every month. 4.15pm. Suitable for young people aged 11-16 years. Discuss your favourite books, discover new authors and make new friends.
Readers Group for Adults. Meets in the Treasure House Education Room on the last Thursday of every month. 5.30pm. If you enjoy talking about books then join our friendly discussion group.
6 Book Challenge. For adults who want to improve their reading skills.
Writers Groups
Poetry Competition. Enter our annual poetry competition judged by a leading contemporary poet, with over £1000 in prize money. Visit your local library or go to the Beverley Literature Festival website for more information.
