What is the Freedom Activity Support Payment?

The Freedom Activity Support Payment is a personal budget of up to £400 may be available to a family living in the East Riding and having a child with a disability which prevents them from accessing age appropriate social and leisure activities. The age range is from 7 years to their 18th birthday.

The money may be used to pay for a support worker to take the child to an activity together with costs of the activity and transport to and from the activity. In certain cases it can also be used to pay for specialist equipment (e.g. sensory equipment).

Merlin's Magic Wand

This is a worldwide charity for children to provide them with magical experiences for those that are seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged. The offer free tickets to any Merlin theme parks and attractions for disabled children and their parent carers. Attractions include Legoland, Sealife Centres, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.

Castaway Courtyard Young Musicians

Weekly band sessions with opportunities to learn to play guitar, keyboards, drums, recorders, percussion, play and sing in a rock, folk or early music band, write your own songs, create and record music using music technology, perform or record CDs of your music and make friends.

Accessible, weekly, after-school music/dance/drama/media activities and a chance to work with professional artists, take part in a performance and create your own piece of theatre. Help with transport provided from home, school, college and return so please contact them to discuss your needs.

Hull National Autistic Society Family Fun Session

A support and activities group for disabled children and their families in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area. This will include lots of fun activities for families to enjoy, including craft, games, Wii console and sensory toys. There is a cafe area for pack up lunch.

DS Active

A group for children aged 5- 25 years old with Downs Syndrome. It offers a chance to develop social skills, develop confidence and physical ability whilst learning football skills.

Disability Swimming Lessons  

East Riding of Yorkshire Disability Swimming Association (ERYDSA) runs four swimming clubs:

Beverley Unbeatables: Beverley Leisure Complex, Flemingate, Beverley, HU17 0LT, Mondays 7 - 8.30pm 10 years plus

Driffield Octopuses: Driffield Leisure Centre, Manorfield Road, Driffield, YO25 5HR, Fridays 6 - 7.30pm, for all ages

Goole Splashers: Goole Lesiure Centre, North street, Goole, DN14 5QX, Mondays 7-8.30pm, for all ages

Haltemprice Dolphins: Haltemprice Leisure Complex, Springfield Way, Anlaby, HU10 6QJ, Thursdays 7.30 - 9pm, for all ages

York Energise: York Energise Centre, Acomb, York, YO24 3DX, courses are on Thursdays for 12 weeks. Lessons last 30 minutes and are held between 4 - 8pm. For children aged 8 - 10 years and 11 - 15 years old.

DSI All Stars is a youth group for young people with disabilities and additional needs aged from 12 - 19 years old who wish to access social or leisure opportunities in their local area.

Autism- friendly Cinema - City Screen, York

MADAGASCAR 3: Europe’s Most Wanted - (PG) Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a travelling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.

Unfortunately we won't have a June show because we refurbishing the screens and ground floor space so will be closed from May 28 to June 13th. We will be back to our regular schedule (i.e. the second Sunday of each month) on July 14th, then August 11th; and will most likely put on an additional Summer Special on a weekday during the holidays.

Altitude Adventures

We have created Altitude Adventures to allow any disabled young person or child to access outdoor and adventure pursuits at the same price as an able bodied child. We endeavour to help each of these young people to experience their chosen activity supported by our own trained staff with the assistance of another experienced and trained worker so they can access and enjoy their chosen activity regardless of their disability. We will also facilitate walks, climbing trips, cycling trips etc for support groups, youth centres, special schools and any other body that wants to utilise our experience to get their young people outdoors and involved an adventure pursuit.

Whiz Kids

Our Ambassador Clubs take place regularly at local schools or sports halls near you, at weekends or during school and college holidays / half-terms.

We're fast becoming the biggest network of young disabled people in the UK, with hundreds of other young people signed up as Ambassadors.

Our Ambassador Clubs are a place for YOU, not your parents!

Here you can make new friends, participate in games, sports, drama, art, music, film-making, training, team challenges, and much more.

Special needs playgroup Come and meet our friendly group and have fun in a safe and fully accessible, non judgemental environment!

This new playgroup is for families of children with special needs. We welcome children of all ages and abilities, as well as their siblings. There will be soft toys, sensory toys, learning and sound toys, games and puzzles, baby toys, slides and ride ons, soft and safe area, colouring and painting, books …and lots more!

There will be free tea and coffee for parents and carers, juice for the kids …and snacks for everyone!
