A childcare setting could be one of the following:
Childminders are self-employed and care for children in their own home. They can often provide flexible care to suit your needs and may be able to provide more individualised care for your children. Childminders can care for children from age six weeks to 16 years but must register with Ofsted if they want to be paid to look after children under eight for more than two hours per day.
Crèches provide occasional childcare during particular events whilst you are taking part in an activity. Crèches must be registered with Ofsted if they open more than four hours per day or the parents are not within the immediate area, or they provide care for children aged under eight years for more than 14 days in a year.
Day nurseries care for children from birth to five years. They are usually open all day, but not at the weekends and bank holidays. Children can generally attend full or part-time and most nurseries will offer free early education for three and four-year-olds.
Home childcarers are similar to childminders but home childcarers work from the family’s house rather than their own. Home childcarers will often be willing to travel for work.
Out of school clubs are often based in schools, community halls, and play centres. They will provide care before and after school and some will offer drop offs and pick ups from schools in the area. Out of School Clubs are mainly open during term time but some will provide a holiday scheme out of term time. If they are providing care for more than two hours per day for children aged birth to eight years they must be registered with Ofsted.
Pre-schools usually offer between 2.5 and six hours each day during term time. Pre-schools are generally open to children aged two to four years (or until they reach compulsory school age) and can offer free early education for three and four-year-olds. Most pre-schools now offer access to free early education flexibly to meet the needs of parents who are in employment/training.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

After completion of the course, you can apply with Ofsted to become a registered childminder.
Other pre-registration courses for childminders are run by external organisations however the Local Authority or the Families Information Service can not recommend or verify any quality of teaching materials within these.

If you wish to advertise a vacancy on the council's East Riding jobs website, you can do so by emailing details of the vacancy (including salary, hours and anything else you'd like to include) to recruitment services:
When writing your advert please include all of the relevant 'keywords' that you think potential applicants will search for such as 'childcare', 'nursery assistant' and 'room leader'. This will help your advert to show up in search results.
Applicants for vacancies outside of the council can't complete an online application via the East Riding jobs website so you would also need to include guidance on how to apply and who to contact for more information in your advert. You can include attachments such as pdfs and word documents in your advert.
Please include a closing date for all applications as this will be the date that the advert will be removed from the website.
There is a fee of £50 plus VAT for placing an advert on the East Riding jobs website for which you will receive an invoice. Please include the name of your company, the full address for the invoice to be sent to and a contact name and number in the email.

Early Years training provides the training required by childminders and childcare settings in order to meet the standards of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Early Years training is available to all Ofsted registered childminders and childcare settings and will need to be booked through the e-Hub. Please see e-Hub guidance notes below:

Childcare settings no longer have to use local authority approved first aid training. Settings can choose which organisation they use and must check that it covers the course content as for St John Ambulance or British Red Cross Pediatric First Aid Training.
East Riding Leisure Centres offer Pediatric First Aid training at a reduced rate of £87.50 from £130 and should be booked and paid for directly through them.

Are you thinking of a career in childcare? If you are then did you know that you can study towards a Skills for Childcare Level 2 Award at an Adult Learning Centre in the East Riding?
The Award will give you a good understanding of two of the most important aspects of working with children or young people. It is an excellent starter qualification which, when you have achieved, could lead to a variety of employment opportunities. You do not need to be working in a childcare environment to attend this course.
