'Capturing the East Riding: Photographs from the Community’ will be on view at Beverley Art Gallery from Saturday, 11 February to Saturday, 24 March and will be opened by Councillor Kay West, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, at the preview on Saturday, 11 February, from 1-3pm.
Organised by the East Riding Cultural Partnership, ‘Capturing the East Riding’ was an amateur photography competition that ran between 2010 and 2011. The contest challenged residents and visitors to capture what the East Riding meant to them through the medium of photography. In total, more than 700 entries were submitted. The exhibition presents the top 100 photos, selected by three local judges.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This exhibition gives us a glimpse of what the East Riding looked like in the past two years. The photos depict life in our towns and villages throughout the four seasons, showing us just how diverse our area is. It is a fascinating take on the East Riding and a showcase of our local talent.”
Hilary Saynor, chairman of the East Riding Cultural Partnership, said: “Selecting the top 100 entries was a real challenge. I would like to recognise the efforts of all the photographers who took time to enter the competition and share their pictures with us. I encourage everyone to visit the Capturing the East Riding website and view all the entries to see how high the standard was.”
From Beverley Art Gallery, ‘Capturing the East Riding: Photographs from the Community’ will go on display at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Goole Museum and Pocklington Arts Centre in 2012 and 2013. Further details will be announced on the website.
